NSWDU in 2020
In 2020, the NSW Schools Debating Team won the National Schools Debating Championships, held online. NSW defeated Queensland in the Grand Final of the Championships, affirming the topic ‘That governments who fail to disaster-proof should be held liable for deaths and damages to citizens in the event of a natural disaster’. Ally Pitt was also selected as a member of the Australian Schools Debating Team based on her successful performance throughout the Championships. Bennet Roebuck-Krautz was selected to be a member of the Australia “A” Team.
We congratulate all the 2020 NSW team members for their stellar results! Congratulations and thanks must also go to their coaches, Isabella Monardo & Thomas Shortridge.
We are looking forward to competing at Nationals once again in 2021 — this time in Hobart!

In the competition’s 44-year history, NSW has been the most successful state, having won the competition on 21 occasions and been runner-up on another 11 occasions.
The coaches of the New South Wales Schools Debating Team for 2021 are Daniel Yim & Ellie Stephenson.
NSWDU also holds workshops at schools across the state run by experienced debating adjudicators and coaches who offer their services on a voluntary basis.
NSWDU is an affiliate of the Australian Debating Federation.
